  • FINANCES

Generally and unfortunately the hardest difficulty that students have to tackle and go through somehow is financing their higher education with international student status. In some European countries it is big advantage for EU members that up until the first university degree of the students all the expenses and tuition is covered by the state. (For the list of countries see the Application's menu EU section.)

Students having foreign studies in their minds usually look at studying abroad as their future goal and big chance for their career and their improvement. Also an outstanding opportunity to break out and "show the world" that they are determined for something more than "usual" or "common". In the vast majority of these cases and plans the desires are well-established, thought-off and based on the pre-eminent and outstanding talent and entity of the applicants.

It is sad story and should be this way that these students who are planning to go and study abroad will ask a question about financial aid on the first place. It is more disappointing that most of the students are not just asking about financial aid but in most of the cases they can even make use out of the available funds. But in general, EngAme's firm belief and experience that these funds for helping the prospective student's financial needs do exist and are available. So everybody who has enough will and diligence to explore and run these scholarships or grants can find and get the necessary amount of financial aid.

To describe and elaborate the topic of scholarships in detail first of all we have to distinguish two different categories. Studies and scholarships in the United States and scholarships in the European Union.

The amount of money that is necessary for studies in the United States is incredibly high. But only for the first sight. If we take a closer look at the options available the rest - what the student has to pay or cover somehow - is much less. There is nothing to hide so one can state without exaggeration that the yearly tuition at a private American university can be as high as 20-25,000 USD. Additionally, for international students there is hardly a way to circumvent room and board costs. On the bottom line, the cost can reach 40-50,000 USD. This final sum can be "only" a total of 10-20,000 USD in public universities.

The other type and area of studies are in the EU zone. As a general principle we can say that European studies are a lot cheaper compared to overseas studies. Additionally, EU programs helping international mobility offers a wide range of financial support for the future's international applicants.

All the EU citizens have equal rights - once they have already graduated from high school - to apply to any institution in any of the EU member's countries. It is among the most fundamental principle of the EU to prohibit any kind of discrimination on the basis of nationality. Therefore, if the country of destination has its policy about free - state covered - tuitions and free registration and enrollment at the first degree to be obtained in that particular national university all the other EU citizens arriving from other countries possess the same rights. So here is what they have to pay for their first degree: doodle-squat. According to this, here the countries where the state covers all the expenses emerging at first university degree: Hungary , Luxemburg , Denmark , Greece , Czech Republic , Poland , and Malta . In the following countries there are no fees for tuition but the admitted applicants have to pay a so called membership fee to an institutional organization, but these kind of fees are still much lower than normal tuition fees. The countries with educational membership fees are: Finland , Sweden , Germany and Cyprus . In all other EU members students have to pay full-tuition for their participation in higher education. (About the exact amount you can contact the EngAme teachers, too.)

For the sake of having a complete list of expenses it has to be mentioned that there are some extra expenses emerging during the application process with applying in the EU or in the United States . This contains mainly the application fee, the cost of taking standardized tests and expenses of the post. On the contrary, if a prospective applicant plans forward and takes action on time - which means long before deadlines - he has the opportunity to claim fee waivers. These are awarded for those who represent the proper reason for being exempted from paying both the application fees and the test fees. European salaries and family incomes are beyond the level of "proper reason" to claim this form of help.

EngAme Ltd. provides a wide-spread and complete information database and service for all international applicants, besides, offers counseling on finding the most personalized and effective solution in financing the prospective applicants studies. It gives advice on how to apply for university jobs with a contribution of 3000 to 6000 dollars a year to the financial needs. Of course, EngAme knows that the easiest way of financing a student's educational expenses is the family or company contribution and support, but our conviction is that even in case of total lack of external support there is a solution for all prospective applicants to enter higher education in the land of their plans and desires.
